Pacific Science Center: Exploration Series

Session 1: Ecosystem Investigators (8/5) – Work together to create a virtual ecosystem model of a wetland environment and practice making observations to identify some of the tiny organisms calling this world home.
Materials Needed: Science Notebook, Pencil or something to write with
(Materials to make a Science Notebook: Loose sheets of paper and string or taples or tape. Students can use a premade notebook)

Session 2: Night Sky Tonight (8/12) – Explore the night sky and learn how to use a star map to make observations as a backyard astronomer.
Materials Needed: Science Notebook, Pencil or something to write with
For Star Map: Star Map print out, Cardstock or file folder, Scissors, Glue

Session 3: Piece of Mind (8/19) – Discover how the brain functions and see a real human brain specimen!
Materials Needed: Science Notebook, Pencil or something to write with

Session 4: Energy Flow: Gravitrax Challenge 1 (8/26) – Follow the flow of energy while playing with physics.
Materials Needed: Science Notebook, Pencil or something to write with, Gravitrax Set (provided)

Session 5: Designers on the Go: Gravitrax Challege 2 (9/2) – Build and test a design to successfully complete an engineering challenge.
Materials Needed: Science Notebook, Pencil or something to write with, Gravitrax Set (provided), Recycled marble run materials (Can use whatever is available at home – cardboard, tape, paper cups, scrap paper, string, etc.)

Holly Duskin

Holly Duskin has 8 years of experience in informal science education sparking curiosity and inspiring stewardship in learners from ages 4 to 94. She holds a Bachelors degree in Cognitive Psychology and is pursuing a Masters in Conservation Biology Education. Holly has taught in outdoor science schools, summer adventure programs, youth conservation corps, after school programs before joining Pacific Science Center.

Fatima Kamal

Fatima Kamal joined the Pacific Science Center team in 2019 as a supervisor for science interpretation programming. Since then, she has been busy supporting many of the education programs offered by PacSci including onsite field trips, summer camps, and now virtual programming. Before joining the museum, she previously worked in literacy intervention and served as an English language instructor. She loves having the opportunity to combine her passion for storytelling with developing exciting STEM programs.
