Everything Comes with a Price
They walked in woods with trees of gold
And played in ponds where silver grows
And stretched their wings in glassy skies
But deep below, a heartbeat slows.
They danced together with the stars
He never asks, she never knows
And all is silent, all is calm
But deep below, injustice shows.
For once beneath those starlit skies
A giant walked these fertile lands
And with his people tended them
With loving care and gentle hands.
But angels came, and slaughtered them
Those left alive, they shamed and chained
And raised their cities, shining high
On those they buried and distained.
They dance at night upon those graves
And soft and deep the angel sleeps
Unaware of the world long lost
But deep below, a giant weeps.
And never wake, my lovely pearl.
Gold Shadows
Through the trees she creeps in silence,
Whispering, and wondering.
Brushing thoughts with thoughts of violence,
Muttering, and mumbling.
Over land and sea she slithers,
Capturing, with teeth and claws.
Slicing skies to sordid slivers,
Starlight dripping from her jaws.
Careful, child, lest she scent
Your beating heart, so strong and clear.
For she’ll tear it, devil-sent,
And swallow it, my darling dear.
Evil things bow down to her:
They’ll savor your soft soul, my love.
Other girls may cry to her,
But you’ll cry not, my little dove.
You must not follow where they go,
When day meets night, to dreamy sleep.
For if you do, then she will know,
And your sweet heart, she’ll cruelly keep.
In the silence of the evening,
Do not drift, my darling girl.
For if you do, you’ll soon be dreaming,
